Greece: Forest School

Our students had the opportunity to take part in a special learning experience with the Forest School (www.kariatzoules-forestschool.gr)

In the park Pavlos Kakouris next to the school the children did a lesson under the trees in nature. They learned to observe, to discover, to make things, to imagine, to analyse, to make assumptions, to ask questions, to draw conclusions, to cooperate and share, to make choices and decisions, to use all five senses, to experiment, to overcome their prejudices, fears and limits! They also learned to admire, appreciate and respect nature and feel part of it. We warmly thank the creators of the Forest School, Nefeli Lambrinou and Manos Pyrovolakis, who not only offered us a unique teaching with many interesting and well-organized activities, but they also taught children a bilingual lesson. We hope to become "kariatzoules" again soon, that is, unruly and immobile children with sparkling eyes and a thirst for learning!

Waste

 FRANCE

Pupils discovered the main dustbins we have in France: yellow  to recycle and black for other waste. They tried to understand what could be put in the yellow one, saying the words used at the last session, then other dustbins were introduced (for clothes,bulbs...).

They practiced with a game and then a recycling dustbin was introduced in the classroom.

THE FOREST 2

FRANCE

Once they have picked up elements in the forest they made Land art at school following different instructions such as « Follow the line » or « Stay in the frame ».

THE FOREST

FRANCE

As the school is surrounded by a pine trees forest we have learnt to recognize its characteristics through art, hiking and using our 5 senses.

We've made visual installations in situ, inspired by Land art artist such as Andy Goldsworthy.. Pupils named the materials used and the meaning of their work.

THE 3 R's REUSE

FRANCE

We used plastic stoppers and straws to make the 6 flags of the project and old pens and glue sticks to write Erasmus+ for the logo.

The 6 years old pupils have made funny heads with cans inspired by the artist Didier Triglia.

GARBAGE

FRANCE

A lady from an association,Rachel, came at school to talk to the students about garbage.

First of all she asked what garbage is,the students answered:«What is on the floor, what is dirty...»;then she asked if there were some at home or at school and they all said «No!».
She showed a picture with garbage and a trash can and they identified them.

She put out from a trash can clean objects and they were sorted out:those we can throw away (they are empty or useless),those we have to keep(packages are full or we still need them).

Students named the various packages (tin can,bottle,bag,jar...) and their material (plastic, metal, glass, paper, cardboard) . She also presented oraganic garbage (leaves,peelings...) with senses games (touch, hear).

Finally they understood that we had a lot of garbage at home and at school !
